Baby of Mine.......

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine

Thurston Keaton Mossholder

March 8 2010-March 22 2011

Thurston passed away very peacefully in his mommy and daddies arms. He enjoyed two whole weeks at home, which was more than we ever could have asked for. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, thoughts, love and support during this very difficult last year. We appreciate all of you so very much and will update you in the coming days and will be holding a memorial event in the weeks to come. We have kept a journal for visitors for Thurston while he was in the hospital and when he came home with thoughts and feelings directed to him, so if you would like to add a card, note, drawing or anything that I could eventually cut out and add to his journal we would so appreciate it. You can send them to:

When he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heav'n so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.

  20. Love and Light to your family! I appears that Thurstons life was a gift! I do not know you and I never met him. But I sit here listening to the Sounds of Silence with tears for your son and a song of hope in my heart for you. May God hold you tightly as he holds Thurston right now. Blessings!

  21. I only knew him through Beverly's photos on her site and her stories about you guys, and I don't know you at all, but I've been rooting like hell for you all along. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, and so heartened by your strength. As a parent I can not imagine what you're going through. Here's hoping some positive thoughts from a stranger can help lift you up somehow. I've never cried over someone I didn't know before.

  22. Donna, I've followed Thurston through Inspire and Facebook and I just wanted to say how so sorry I am for the pain you have all had to endure. I weep for your loss, and I cry at the thought of a world without Thurston. Thank you for sharing such an intimate experience with the rest of us. I know that your selflessness has been a source of inspiration for many.

May Thurston finally rest in peace.

  32. Dear Donna and family: I can not possibly, truly know what you are feeling.. nor can anyone. Words to express my deepest sympathy feel somehow trite. I can only say that my heart aches for you... and so many others' hearts do too. I hope you find comfort and along the way, feel what you need to feel, and don't feel any obligation to explain where you are in the process. Virtual Hugs from someone who has been on the sidelines, watching in awe of your strength and the enormity of Thurston's bravery and quiet beauty, Laura Slayton

  37. Oh my, I'm so very very sorry for your loss. Any family, any parent who loses a child loses a piece of themself forever. That piece goes with the blessed little soul who has gone on to Heaven and there will forever be a part of you that's with Thurston there. Having lost my little guy after he was able to come home for 2 weeks 32 years ago, my heart hurts for you and your family, Donna. Time passes, the heart scabs over but never completely heals. No words are enough.....ever

  40. Donna,
My heart has completely split into two upon reading the news about your glo-worm. I sit here with tears streaming down my face. God, how I had fallen in love with Thurston and everything you have shared about him on your blog. I am most grateful that you had the last two weeks with him at home. But, life is so unfair and I am so sorry for your loss. I wish there was something I could say or do to ease your pain but I know nothing can do that. Your little gloworm is going to be by your side every single day of your life. You loved him so incredibly and you stayed by his side through every single moment of his life. God gave him the best mommy and daddy!!!!!! He will forever be in my heart. May God hold all of you in the palm of His hands during this difficult time. Please know how much of an impact he made in his short life. I will miss him dearly. Rest in peace, Glo-worm. May you light up the nights with brilliant stars and watch over your family.

And as i read through his journey, I was reliving some of my memories of when my little one was in the NICU. You were his CHAMPION! you loved, and new him better than anyone else, as I am with my little boy. I feel lucky to have gotten to know your son through your written words. 73. Donna,
As I sit here, reading these news, my soul aches to know your precious little boy has passed. My parents and I met brave Thurston while he (and my daughter) were in the NICU and we never forgot him or you. It was his and your strength that served as solace when we had our darkest hour.
Please know that none of it has been in vain. You and Thurston have touched the lives of many. Thurston will be forever loved and missed by so many of us who followed his brave battles.
May the immeasurable pain that you're feeling subside. May you somehow receive all the love and strength we, your readers, friends and family send you.

Rest in peace, beautiful brave Thurston. The world is less colorful without you.

  74. My heart just breaks for you and your family. I know you must miss your little boy so much. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. I haven't stopped thinking about you and your family since the day I read this post. I so wish that there was something that I could do to take away your pain. It just doesn't seem right that any parent should have to lose a child.

  75. Donna,
I am just devastated over this news. Thurston's story is so similar to my grandson's, so I kept holding on to hope. You, Chad and Viola will not leave my thoughts and prayers for a long time to come. I got to know and love Thurston through your blog(which I had bookmarked from the beginning)and your posts in the micro-preemie support group. He was the most beautiful baby and looked like a "picture of health"! I believe that you have experienced every emotion that my daughter has and I felt all of hers along with her, so I also felt yours. You are an awesome mother and Thurston was so lucky that God gave you to him. He has touched SO MANY people in his short little life. You will probably never even realize just how many. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to know him.
Love to you and your family,

  76. Donna,

I've been following your blog through Bev's facebook posts and it has touched me in so many ways. I am sorry for your loss and the loss of your family. I don't know you, and therefore don't know your reasons for starting this blog, but I can assure you that you and Thurston and your family have touched so many people's lives. Years from now people will continue to read the story of his life. They may or may not be in a similar situation, but there is a part of his story that will touch everyone. In time the pain will lessen, but the memories will never fade.
